Illegal casino: SHO among 4 policemen suspended [Delhi]

0 Comments | Times of India, The, May 7, 2010

NEW DELHI: Five policemen were suspended in two different incidents in east Delhi district on Thursday. According to the police, a house in Gandhi Nagar where a modern-day casino was operating illegally was raided on Thursday and 44 people, including a juvenile, were arrested from the spot.

“Our investigations revealed that the local police was in collusion with the casino owners. We acted on a phone tip-off. Four policemen – SHO Narendra Singh, divisional officer Zile Singh and constables Chaman and Karamveer – have been suspended. The case has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station but the IO of Krishna Nagar police station will investigate the case for fair probe,” said DCP (east) K C Dwivedi.

In another incident, a sub-inspector was suspended. A day after Delhi Police cremated the body of a 24-year-old man in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area without informing his parents, three policemen, including two SHOs, have come under fire for mishandling the case. Sub-inspector Maha Singh, posted at the Madhu Vihar police station, has been suspended and a departmental inquiry been ordered against him. Nagendra Tiwari, whose family had lodged a missing complaint, committed suicide on April 26 and his body was found near train tracks

Injured Dillon is expected home today

0 Comments | Derby Evening Telegraph, Aug 27, 2009

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy who was the only survivor of a holiday car crash in Bulgaria is due to arrive back in the UK today.

Paramedics will be waiting for the plane carrying Dillon Shaw to land at East Midlands Airport before taking him to the Royal Derby Hospital.

Dillon suffered head injuries, a broken collar bone and a broken leg in the crash in Bulgaria.

It claimed the lives of his best friend, Paul McLeod, 11, of Derby, and Paul’s grandmother, Gerry, 54, of Ilkeston. A Bulgarian woman also died in the smash on Friday last week.

The youngster’s father, Steven Shaw, of Heatherton Village, was told that because of the lack of medical insurance it would cost Pounds 15,000 to fly Dillon back to the UK.

But thanks to the generosity of family and friends, the 35year- old managed to raise the cash in days and his son was due to arrive back at about 4pm.

Mr Shaw said: “I shall be waiting for him at the airport.

“I spoke to him yesterday and he was not being very helpful in regards to nurses wanting to stick needles into him but that is understandable for a 10-yearold in a foreign country.

“I reassured him that they were only trying to help and he seemed to take that on board.”

A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics would be waiting at the airport to meet Dillon and transport him to hospital.

He said: “This is a tragic story and we extend our condolences to the family and friends of those involved.

“As soon as we heard that Dillon was returning to the UK, we were only too pleased to do our bit by providing him with medical care and transport for the last leg of his journey.

“We hope our assistance meant his family had one less problem to worry about.”

Obviously this did not sit well with the gentleman accused and his attorney also took issue with it in the local court.

Another incident which did not make the papers and probably happens all the time was witnessed in a Sam?s Club in Santa Fe New Mexico, by a Mr. Weinstein in which a clerk told him she did not need to see his ID and trusted him because he was not Mexican. This comment did not go unnoticed by Mr. Weinstein and he made mention of it to the manager. The clerk who said it was still working their the next week when Weinstein went in to the store and he figured that the Manager agreed with the clerks comment or just did not care that it was made. These types of things happen all the time, we have also heard of the issues where Black Americans have been singled out and pulled over on the NJ Turnpike because they were black and then find out that it was a State Policy for profiling.

Trainees’ anger at block on NCH jobs

0 Comments | Nottingham Evening Post, May 24, 2010 | by Michael Greenwell

TRAINEE tradesmen are angry about being rejected from jobs because of where they live.

Nottingham City Homes has advertised for new workers as part of an apprenticeship scheme funded by Nottingham City Council.

But Nottingham City Homes has rejected applications from those living outside the city boundary. Marc Bailey, 30, of Widmerpool Road, Wysall, said: “I have completed a level 2 course in plumbing at a college in the city and now I need to gain an apprenticeship.

“I applied to Nottingham City Homes for a job, but they said I live outside of the city boundary and don’t meet the criteria.

“We are in a worldwide recession and I need a job, it’s not fair to be refused just because of where I live.”

Dominic Flynn, 20, of Hickling Road, Mapperley, tried to apply for an apprentice electrician’s position.

He said: “It is a disgrace, if I had a disability they would still consider me, so why can’t they now just because of where I live? “I have been looking for a job everyday and when I finally find something that suits me, I am turned down because of where I live.”

Nottingham City Homes confirmed that the criteria for new apprentices, in relation to the advert in question, eliminates residents living outside the city boundary.

A spokesman for Nottingham City Homes said they manage about 30,000 properties in the city, with residents from diverse backgrounds. “Unemployment on our estates is higher than the national average,” he said.

“We want to do our bit to offer people not just a roof over their head, but training and a career and better prospects. We have a vision of ‘homes and places where people want to live’ – the ‘places’ bit in part comes from offering local people a chance to build a career, and gain more self-respect

COADE CADWorx fieldPipe Featured in Australian Pipeline Magazine

Business Wire, May 08, 2009

HOUSTON — COADE announced today that CADWorx fieldPipe, a product that combines
the intelligent modeling capabilities of CADWorx Plant with the laser
precision of Leica fieldPro from Leica Geosystems, was featured in the
April 2009 edition of Australian Pipeliner magazine.

The article describes how Falk PLIs Engineering and Surveyinggroup
used the intelligence and accuracy of the laser technology in CADWorx
fieldPipe on a project designing a large number of piping spools for
fabrication. By using CADWorx fieldPipe, the article discusses how they
saved approximately six to eight hours per spool piece a full work day
eliminating the added cost and rework. Falk PLI reports that they
completed the project in 50 per cent of the time it would have normally
taken without this powerful tool.

CADWorx fieldPipe was developed by people familiar with piping design
and how designers and engineers work in the field, making it easy to set
up and use. The accuracy of the package comes from the laser-based
surveying techniques it uses. Because the model is being produced live
during the scanning, the designer can check the drawing and be sure that
all of the relevant information has been accurately obtained before
leaving the job site.

Information on COADE and its products can be found at www.coade.com.

You should take

You should take the time to discover all the fascinating facts about the history of the breed of dog, learning which myths are outright lies, and the facts about the dog breed.

As an owner of the breed I can say from my own personal experience that the pit bull breed is one of the most loyal and very affectionate breed of dog I have ever owned. Here is an example of the type of well tempered dog that this breed really is. I have two children they play with our dog like he is some kind of toy. The dog really just lets them do what they want to him. I watched my daughter literally sit on the dogs back and pull on the dogs? ears the dog just gets up licks my daughter on the face and moves to a different part of the room.

Kitesurfer’s triple world gold triumph

0 Comments | Western Morning News, The, Sep 3, 2009

A WESTCOUNTRY woman has won gold for the third year running at the kitesurfing World Championships.

After seven qualification rounds, six championship races and a final medal race, Steph Bridge, from Exmouth, took victory at the Kite Course Racing championships, held at the St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco.

The five-day event was held in San Francisco Bay between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Mrs Bridge, 37, who trains in Exmouth, said her victory was the result of years of practice.

She said: “I’ve been kitesurfing for a long time. I’m in the water an awful lot and as far as preparation goes, I’m always looking to improve the equipment as well as myself.

“I came into it from windsurfing several years ago and taught myself.

“My father was a local boat builder and I’ve always run a business involved with water sports.”

As well as training, Mrs Bridge runs Edge Watersports, one of the top UK kitesurf centres, with husband Eric and sons Oliver, Guy and Thomas.

Dubbed The Bridglets, the boys are already accomplished kite surfers and have won a string of championships, including the British Kite Surfing Association Juniors in July this year.

Kite surfing is now affiliated with the International Sailing Federation, which hopes to make the sport a registered Olympic event in 2016.

Mrs Bridge said: “We’ll see what happens but essentially working on the equipment is what I’m involved with and I’ll probably just keep going really because it’s developing all the time.

“A lot of people are coming from quite high levels of sports like sailing and windsurfing. We’ve got a windsurfer with two Olympic medals who competes.

“But the fact is that it’s getting there. It’s very big abroad but hasn’t taken off here yet.”

GREAT news for Kindle — best-selling historian Lady Antonia Fraser is a convert although she has a problem manoeuvring between chapters. “For some reason I read very fast, so fast that I put my thumbs out moving the pages,” she told me at the launch of her friend and fellow historian Lisa Hilton’s first novel, The House with Blue Shutters last night. “I’m going to give it another try on holiday.”

Academics and journalists were lurking in the gardens of the Travellers’ Club in Pall Mall and Toby Young and his wife Caroline were converting guests to the appeal of their new school, a free establishment set up by parents in Acton. Blonde bombshell Hilton sold stacks of actual books and no doubt her Second World War romance will be frenzily downloaded too.

Fed up with loud disco

Fed up with loud disco

0 Comments | New Straits Times, Jul 29, 2010 | by J.Y.S.

RESIDENTS in the vicinity of Jalan P. Ramlee, Kuala Lumpur, are frustrated over the noise from a disco in the area.

During the 2010 Fifa World Cup, I was forced to go and stay in a hotel for a whole weekend because of the noise levels. The same applied during the Grand Prix season.

I live on the upper floor of the Idaman Residences and each night the disco starts around 9.30pm and goes on till 4am. It is impossible to sleep. The vibrations from the bass system in the disco is so bad that I can feel them in bed.

Many people have invested and rented in good faith in the area

Just the camp for kids

Just the camp for kids

0 Comments | Citizen Gloucestershire, The, Jul 14, 2010

GLOUCESTERSHIRE children are being given the opportunity to attend a brand new type of summer holiday camp.

‘Just Camps’ will be running week-long children’s activity camps throughout the summer holidays, at the Cheltenham Civil Service Club on Tewkesbury Road.

Each day will begin with a full warm-up and the children will then be split into groups depending on their preferences.

There will be a group of dancers, who can learn choreography and dances, while others can take part in multi-sports, playing organised games and developing their team work and fitness.

There will also be speed and agility sessions along with theme days throughout the week. Wednesday will see a mini Olympics, with an opening ceremony followed by a dance show to put into practice the skills learned.

Friday will be parents v kids day, with fun games such as dodgeball and obstacle courses.

Monday is meet and greet day, Tuesday is crazy hair day and Thursday is Wii sports/dance day.

Camp director Matt Holdback believes Just Camps offer something unique.

“Our Multi-Sports Camp will be hosted by a select team of qualified sports coaches from a variety of sports,” Holdback said.

“Children will learn and develop sports skills through our interactive coaching curriculum. Each sporting activity will be delivered through fun games where children are learning without realising.

“The basics of Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) will be delivered in a fun, energetic way.”

Children will also develop motor skills which are transferable into all sports.

The children will have the chance to use speed ladders, agility hurdles, reaction balls, resistance bands and parachutes.

Children will get the chance to participate in sports such as football, dodgeball, hockey, cricket, tag rugby, capture the flag, bench ball and a variety of other fun games. Just Camps have also teamed up with Dance Tec Street Dance group to provide the most up to date dance projects.

Each day at camp is split up into 45-55 minute sessions where structured coaching sessions will be delivered by the coaching staff.

Just Camps is open to children aged four to 14. The first camp starts on Monday, July 26 and they will run for the following five weeks
